Ukolébavka (“Lullaby”) for Lyric Soprano and Piano was composed during a holiday stay in Munich. Set to a Czech text, the work captures the intimate atmosphere of a mother singing gently to her child in the quiet of the night.
The composition reflects the traditional character of a lullaby while incorporating a subtle sense of mystery and tenderness. The text speaks of protection and reassurance: the mother comforts the child, urging it not to fear the dark spirits surrounding the night, promising that she will remain by its side and soothe its tears.
Through lyrical vocal lines and delicate piano writing, the piece creates an atmosphere of warmth, melancholy, and maternal devotion, balancing fragile intimacy with the faint shadow of folkloric imagination.
