Sonata Lyrica, Op. 9 for Guitar Duo was composed for the Orfeus Student Composition Festival in Bratislava in 2026.
The sonata employs a contemporary yet intentionally simple musical language. Rather than attempting to narrate a concrete story, the work seeks to capture a state of beginning — something not yet fully defined or firmly established.
The music remains predominantly calm and introspective, though at times it grows denser and more dramatic in expression. Moments of tension, uncertainty, and emotional weight emerge throughout the piece, balanced by an inner impulse to continue forward. The first movement explores the contrast between the burden of the first step and the quiet enthusiasm that nevertheless makes it possible.
The composition consists of two movements:
I. Na úsvite bytia (“At the Dawn of Being”)
II. Adagio cantabile
Through subtle interaction between the two guitars, Sonata Lyrica creates an atmosphere of contemplation and restrained emotional intensity, blending lyrical stillness with gradual expressive expansion.
